Five days of free art events

From intricate embroidery to 1970s high fashion, psychedelic oriental rugs, Māori weaving and Niuean barkcloth, Threads Textiles Festival brings together artists, galleries and museums for five days of art events spanning the cultural capital. Presented as part of the 2022 Aotearoa New Zealand Festival of the Arts.

One day online symposium presented by The Dowse that will unravel the seam between textiles and contemporary art.

Late night

Explore the city's cultural precinct after hours on Saturday 19 March

Enjoy an exhibition, catch a hands-on workshop, join a tour and meet artists and curators at one of the thirteen participating galleries or museums.

Fashion and art intersect with temporary exhibitions and in-store pop-ups at a selection of independent Wellington boutiques.

Coinciding with the launch of the New Zealand Portrait Gallery’s inaugural award for emerging Māori artists — the Kiingi Tuheitia Portraiture Award – the Festival programme includes a gallery late night event with performances curated by CubaDupa, a talks series, studio visits workshops and collection tours.
